Carl Carton And The Songdogs

Robert Palmer band guitarist's 'Love And Respect' solo album released July 28th on SPV

Ex - Mink De Ville guitarist Carl Carlton, who has worked with such diverse artists as Joe Cocker, Yothu Yindi, Alannah Myles, Jimmy Barnes and Robert Palmer (from 1995 to the present day), now steps forward into the limelight with his very own CD, 'Love and Respect', set for release on July 28th on SPV.

'Love And Respect' is a rootsy, rock'n'roll album, tinged with a touch of country, reggae, and a sprinkling of rhythm and blues. Special guests include Robert Palmer on vocals,
Levon Helm (The Band) on drums, Ian Maclagan (Small Faces) on keyboards, Bobby Keys (Rolling Stones) on Sax, Steve Howard & Jon Smith (The White Trash Horns - Edgar Winter Group), Moses Mo (Mothers Finest) on guitar, Jerry 'Wyzard' Seay (Mothers Finest) on bass and slide guitar ace Sonny Landreth.

Carl Carlton, who now lives in Glencullen, just outside Dublin, Ireland, was born in Frisia, East Germany, 37 years ago, the son of a small farmer and a teacher. Carl's earliest musical memories are of the juke box at his dad's local pumping out classics by the likes of Otis Redding, James Brown, Lee Dorsey and the Stones, inspiring him to learn guitar at a very early age.

When he was only 17 he moved to Holland, where he made a name for himself with Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers, Herman Brood and Vitesse, and went on to form his own groups Hollander and The Raiders of the Lost Corvette. He then crossed the Atlantic, where he played with Mink (Willy) de Ville. His next stop was London, where Carl's services were enlisted by Manfred Mann's Earth Band, and he has subsequently worked as a musician and producer with artists ranging from Jimmy Barnes, Joe Cocker, Yothu Yindi, Keb Mo, and Alanah Myles to Amanda Marshall.

Since 1995, Carl has been the Robert Palmer band's permanent guitarist, and it was, in fact, Robert who succeeded in convincing Carl that his solo debut was long overdue. "As a band member, you may not be at the forefront, but you still get to live the rock'n'roll life, writing songs, producing, travelling extensively, earning a lot of money sometimes - and at others none at all! Recording your own album means a lot of responsibility, standing in the limelight - it's much easier to follow in the wake of a big 'star' and continue to live your life as a musical diplomat!"

He needn't have worried. The plethora of famous guest musicians who happily lent their talents to help record 'Love And Respect' alone shows the 'Love & Respect' that Carl commands in the international musical community. From the opening track ' Days Of Magic' (a future single) to the closer, 'Alive', 'Love & Respect' is packed with the kind of musical gems which many of his former employers would have wanted for themselves had he not recorded them himself.
