DARKWATER
***PUNK ‘X-FACTOR’ ALT-MODEL-FRONTED ROCK BAND’S
DEBUT SINGLE OUT MAY 21st ***

Dynamic Scottish cutting-edge, electro-rock band Darkwater, fronted by wild Geordie “alternative” model Lora (21), release their debut, double-A-sided single, ‘Easy Weakness’ / ‘Alone And…’ on May 21st on
Up Next Records.

Currently touring the UK with Hayseed Dixie, (including two London shows at Islington Academy on 15th and 16th April) Darkwater have been working their arses off playing everywhere from tough Glasgow pubs to major-venue support gigs with the Damned, Betty Curse, Rattlesnake Remedy and To-mera – even touring Eastern Europe with Dog Eat Dog. The hard slog is starting to pay off: they’ve come up with a unique style – “the sound of 2007”, according to Skinny Magazine.

Darkwater were formed by guitarist Doog and bassist Graham, both professional soundmen, who met when they were working at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall. After winning the Radio Southwestsound Battle Of The Bands, Darkwater played on the main stage of the Wickerman Festival in 2006, but went through 3 girl singers in their first year…Then, one fateful Saturday night they were watching X-Factor when a girl stepped in front of the cameras. A shock of jet black hair, piercings and punk attitude, she sang brilliantly and found Louie, Sharon and Simon immediately sending her through to boot camp.

“As soon as we saw Lora and her tattoos among all those Barbie dolls we knew she was perfect for us”, says Graham. But she was swiftly booted out of boot camp, “I was so out of place…I wasn’t nearly blonde enough” laughs Lora, who has a cult following as an Ultra Vixen in fetish magazine Bizarre.

Darkwater’s manager immediately began tracking her down and eventually found Lora in her hometown of Newcastle. She listened to Darkwater’s songs and they headed straight to Glasgow where she rehearsed all night with the band. They fitted together perfectly. “When you have the right line up, something happens; you just know instantly that this is the band – it’s almost as if these people are meant to play together” says Doog.

Their cutting edge rock songs are winning over the Scottish media and thousands of new fans. “
Metal merchants who like NIN and Marilyn Manson will enjoy this…but you don’t need to hate yourself ”, wrote Rick Fulton in the Daily Record. “The lazy comparison is a hard edged Garbage, but in reality, what you have here is a classic female-fronted rock act with material that deserves a wider audience,” said Jim Gellatly of XFM radio.

In their own words, the group describe their sound as one that “hits you right from the start – it explodes in your face!” Darkwater are poised on the crest of a wave, their irresistible, dark, hard rock all set to cascade into the hearts and minds of all lovers of incendiary new music. As the Skinny Mag says, “Darkwater stand on the edge of stardom
