Dirty Perfect

New Single – live shows!

Rich (vox/guitar), Kip (guitar/vox), James (drums) and Shawn (bass) make up Dirty Perfect.

All in the
ir early 20s and riding a rocket from Cardiff central, they were one of the most talked-about bands at this year’s In The City conference in Manchester where they were invited to play as part of the event’s Unsigned bill, and subsequently laid waste to every other band playing.

They’ve been championed by Steve Lamacq at Radio 1, as well as having had copious plays on XFM, and have had in-depth features in Rock Sound and Classic Rock.

Not bad for a debut single…

DIRTY PERFECT formed in August 2004, but have spent the last year fine-tuning themselves, as they felt it was all going too well.

DIRTY PERFECT are now ready…thank you for waiting.

DIRTY PERFECT release the follow-up to November’s self-titled debut EP on FEBRUARY 13TH – QUARTERBACK HAIRSTYLE is released on Sound Foundation Records, distributed by Genepool / Universal

Dirty Perfect:

Some stuff about them

A band of four hailing from Cardiff by way of New Zealand, Australia, Manchester and, well, Cardiff, Dirty Perfect have rock, pop and hooks, very much like an art-rock Rice Krispies. They bring you to a happy but slightly disturbing place somewhere between Mclusky and Weezer, where they assault your ears with volume and your mind with choruses. Dirty Perfect leave you with a grin, the urge to sing to yourself in public and a desire to jump about. Live exposure results in additional tinnitus and heavy sweating. Basically, it’s a sensory overload like a chocolate pizza.

22 year old Rich Frennaux is the front man, guitar player and main songwriter of Dirty Perfect. This is his first band. He is therefore obviously a smart-arse and just showing off. Rich was born in London, moved to the village of Timaru in New Zealand, then on to Brisbane, Australia. From there he went to Cardiff, which seems inexplicable! The result of all this is a very distinctive vocal sound which, weirdly enough, sounds very English.
Kip Armstrong likes travelling. When he isn’t playing guitar, singing and writing songs in the Dirty Perfect cause he can often be found on the road, i.e. he can’t be found. His style is more Lord Lucan than Michael Palin. Having reached his mid twenties the other boys call him “Kip Timesgone” but underneath the facial hair and with the skeletal / thrift store thing going on he looks as good as ever, ‘though he still gives to his hero Jason Lee on this one. Kip suffers from narcolepsy and, ironically, insomnia. Narcolepsy brought the band together after an incident in a spar and insomnia resulted in an all night session that produced Scheme Eugene. Sans afflictions Kip would have been doing a Kerouac across the US, so it’s all worked out.

James Griffiths is the man behind the kit. He is 23 and this is the first band he will admit to having been in. He hasn’t really had time to be in a band before as he was too busy running a strip club. This is actually the truth. James looks like the kid you would push around at school but can in fact splinter bones with a handshake. Basically he is some sort of Super Geek.

Shawn Day is the man on bass. He replied to an advert to join this Cardiff based band from his home in Wyoming (yes, the emptiest State in the US) and even being immediately deported when he flew over for his audition did not weaken his resolve. This was so ridiculously amazing we immediately gave him the job.

Dirty Perfect started life in August 2004 and everybody immediately fell about in awe. They rapidly picked up a manager, an agent, a US agent, record company interest, publishing company interest, DJ support, a load of big name producers offering to do free recordings (in exchange for their souls…) and also some fans. Because things were going too easily the band then spent three months messing about with their line-up. This stalling is now complete and there will be gigs, breakdowns, fights and rehab in the near future. Well, gigs anyway.
