Reculver’s debut single, ‘Wake Up Call’, set for release on October 31st on Orgy Records, distributed by Pinnacle, has already been played on both Scott Mills Radio One show and Jonathan Ross’s Radio 2 show. The band will preview the single live at the Carling Islington Academy on October 4th, onstage at 8.30pm. Reculver are an incredibly tight, hard, new rock band formed by Kent born cousins Luke and Si Purdie. Their uncompromisingly heavy, organic rock sound comes courtesy of the kind of intuitive musical interaction only usually witnessed between relatives. Born into showbiz musical families, Luke (24) and Si (26) were inspired by such classic rock artists as Aerosmith, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Ozzy, Led Zeppelin and Nirvana to take up the guitar as teenagers. After playing together in a number of different local bands, the cousins decided to form their own outfit, with drummer Jarrett and bassist Jimi August. Pondering on a new moniker, they hit on ‘Reculver’, the name of Luke and Si’s local beach, where the prototypes of the famous ‘bouncing bombs’, invented by Barnes Wallace, were tested during the Second World War. Unknown to Luke, his grandfather decided to push things along a little and asked Jonathan Ross to play a demo version of ‘Wake Up Call’ on his Saturday morning Radio 2 show late in 2004. Ross played the track and declared on air that if any record companies were listening, they should sign this ‘great rock band’. Orgy Records’ A&R man, who happened to be looking to sign a rock band at the time, heard the broadcast and tracked the band down. After witnessing a blistering live gig the team at Orgy signed Reculver on the strength of the band’s hook laden choruses and raw guitar driven sound. The band began recording their debut album, and to kick things off, released a download only single, ‘Sharp Sand’. on June 27th via karmadownload.com, winning over numerous websites and rock radio DJ’s. Www.roomthirteen.com proclaimed that ‘Reculver might be an unknown name at the moment, but that should change with the release of 'Sharp Sand'. Having already headlined at the Camden Underworld, there's a very good reason why this band are going to be pushed to the forefront of rock music. This band deserve the limelight, and their organic, fresh-faced hard rock is proof.’ Then Luke’s grandfather was introduced to Radio One DJ Scott Mills and couldn’t help going on about how good Reculver’s upcoming album was sounding. He suggested that Scott play the new single, ‘Wake Up Call’, which Scott agreed to do provided that this famous grandfather come in to Radio One for an interview... which he did... step up Bruce Forsyth, who, despite the best efforts of band, label, management and publicist, can’t stop going on about Reculver! Reculver are an incredibly tight, hard, new rock band formed by Kent born cousins Luke and Si Purdie, who have been honing down their unique sound in various bands over the last five years. They formed their first band, House of Flies, in 2000, and after an initial foray into Holland, attracted the attention of a big independent Dutch record company, which signed them in 2001. House of Flies relocated to Amsterdam and began recording what should have become their debut album in some of the best studios in Holland and playing live on the vibrant Dutch rock scene. After support slots with the likes of Slash, Megadeth, and Nashville Pussy, House Of Flies began building a sizeable following in the Netherlands, soon headlining many regional town festivals. But the producer the band was working with was a rampant coke addict obsessed with attempting to shoehorn them into the Nu-Metal camp, which they decidedly were not. The last straw was when he stole the cash the record company had sent over to the studio for the band’s ferry fare back over the English Channel, so he could buy ‘Charlie’. They walked out. Subsequent 2002 sessions with a different Dutch producer produced a track, ‘The End’ which was featured on the soundtrack of extreme sports movie ‘Adrenaline’, released in 2003, but by then the band had burnt out and split. Luke, and Si had returned to Kent and after hooking up with long-time collaborator drummer Jarrett, recruited bassist Jimi August from the thriving local rock scene. Pondering on a new moniker, they hit on ‘Reculver’, the name of Luke and Si’s local beach, where the prototypes of the famous ‘bouncing bombs’, invented by Barnes Wallace, were tested during the Second World War. The team at Orgy Records totally fell in love with Reculver’s exhilarating, unashamedly retro, totally anthemic rock songs, so they signed them late 2004 and straight away booked the group in to Ray Davies’ Konk Studio, a veritable museum of musical technology from the past 50 years. The band simply set up, plugged in and started the tapes, capturing a number of songs ‘live in the studio’. Dubbed the ‘The Konk Sessions’, they capture Reculver’s stripped down, straight ahead rock sound perfectly. Four of these feature on the promo CD which leads with the first fruit of the band’s album recording sessions, ‘Sharp Sand’, set for release as a download only single June 27th via karmadownload.com.
